wanted: heretofore unprecedented boost in energy

list of things to do:

  • potty train the bird
  • wean the bird from his chew toy (pacifier)
  • switch bird to a big-boy-bed
  • eliminate (excuse the pun) the monkey’s night-time pull-up
  • experience a miraculous and heretofore unprecedented boost in energy

my kids are ready to move forward, and i can foresee that life without diapers, chew toys, easily-scaled cribs, and pull-ups will be easier. but not without getting much more difficult first.

list of supplies needed:

  • big boy pants
  • wine
  • elmo potty
  • padded room (for all of us)
  • screwdriver for crib disassembly
  • marriage counseling
  • big boy bed
  • washer/dryer
  • B12 shot
  • sense of humor

wish us luck!

we have very similar lists at the moment, but I feel a bit more under the gun, what with the third child arriving soon. And I can’t have the wine to give me strength. Have some extra for me.

Going through this phase with the second kid has been much harder for me, perhaps because I’m taking care of two, or because I’ve telescoped and softened my memories of potty-training and generally civilizing my first. It really helps me to remember it won’t last forever and that this is it–when it’s over, I’ll miss this piece of my kid’s life even as I relish (and/or loathe) whatever comes next.

Also, I think we have an Elmo potty seat with the bird’s name on it. Seriously.

Right there with you on the potty training front. I just keep putting off getting really serious about it. And the paci weaning, too! We are down to just in the crib, but I have NO idea how to make the next leap. And I dread it with a fiery passion.
